|Valaam. The monastery bay|
(2009, oil on canvas, 48 53 cm)
The monastery Bay penetrates the Valaam island exactly from north to south. Since olden times here there were located quays for the boats. The wooden quay on piles browed the coast for over 100 meters. A wooden boat-house for storage of nets, awnings for drying fish also stays here.
Near the quay there is the Annunciation chapel built at the end of the XVIII century. To the north of the chapel, on the coast of the bay, in 1896 there was built a stone chapel, consecrated in the name of the icon of Our Lady "Joy of All Who Sorrow." The airy elegant bell tower was restored in 1985. The chapel made Valaam bricks was placed on a high foundation of gray granite.
The painting was first exhibited at the personal exhibition "East-West" 2009, St. Petersburg, then exposed at the personal exhibition in Moscow "An Opuls's Christmas Tale" 2009, at the exhibition "Spirit Quest" in St. Petersburg, in 2010, in traveling exhibitions of the Orthodox cycle "Islands of faith", 2013, St. Petersburg.
Remade in March 2014. It was presented in the town Taytsy at the exhibition "The Slavic motifs" (May 24, 2014) dedicated to the Day of Slavic Writing and Culture.
In 2015 the painting was repeatedly exhibited on the stand of the pilgrimage service "The Valaam pilgrim" at the tourist exhibitions.

Questions to Opuls
Question: What human quality is the most important at creation of a work of art (concentration, patience, desire, awe, etc.)?
Nikolsky skete. Spring on Valaam (2005)
[ hide the list ]
The painting is a real life. In it the nature appears before soul without intermediaries, without covers, without conventions. The poetry is intangible. The music is intangible. The sculpture is relative. But the painting, especially in a landscape, is something real. Poets, musicians, sculptors, I don’t want to decrease your glory. Your destiny is also splendid. But it will be rendered to everyone on justice! (Eugène Delacroix)
