|Valaam. The monastery bay|
(2009, oil on canvas, 48 53 cm)
The monastery Bay penetrates the Valaam island exactly from north to south. Since olden times here there were located quays for the boats. The wooden quay on piles browed the coast for over 100 meters. A wooden boat-house for storage of nets, awnings for drying fish also stays here.
Near the quay there is the Annunciation chapel built at the end of the XVIII century. To the north of the chapel, on the coast of the bay, in 1896 there was built a stone chapel, consecrated in the name of the icon of Our Lady "Joy of All Who Sorrow." The airy elegant bell tower was restored in 1985. The chapel made Valaam bricks was placed on a high foundation of gray granite.
The painting was first exhibited at the personal exhibition "East-West" 2009, St. Petersburg, then exposed at the personal exhibition in Moscow "An Opuls's Christmas Tale" 2009, at the exhibition "Spirit Quest" in St. Petersburg, in 2010, in traveling exhibitions of the Orthodox cycle "Islands of faith", 2013, St. Petersburg.
Remade in March 2014. It was presented in the town Taytsy at the exhibition "The Slavic motifs" (May 24, 2014) dedicated to the Day of Slavic Writing and Culture.
In 2015 the painting was repeatedly exhibited on the stand of the pilgrimage service "The Valaam pilgrim" at the tourist exhibitions.

The art isn’t a display of any mysterious idea, beauty, god as metaphysics say; it isn’t a game in which the person lets out surplus of the backlog of the energy as aesthetics-physiologists say; it isn’t a demonstration of emotions by external signs; it isn’t a manufacture of pleasant subjects, and the main thing it isn’t pleasure, but it is a means which is necessary for a life and for a movement to good of the particular person and the mankind and it is a communicative means which connects people in the same feeling. (Leo Tolstoy)
